Team Geek: AKA Computer Honor Society

April 27, 2011

I am in the process of creating a club after school, Team Geek, for my technology gifted students, or anyone who would like to become technology gifted.  The students will earn a silicone bracelet and a certificate after completing the club.  I want to empower students to have the skills to solve simple tech problems that get in the way of learning in the classroom.  "Team Geek to the rescue" is the motto and culture I hope to create next year in our Middle School as we slowly transition to a 1:1 school.

Below you can see some of the skills we hope to give the students.  If there are more you can think of, please let me know!

One benefit to a club like this is your school, is not only what you can teach the kids, but what the kids teach us. Yesterday after school, a sixth grader showed us how easy it is to hack the school network. He used my SmartBoard and illustrated how to sign in, get admin rights, download programs and use the remote desk top. These items are currently being fixed within our school. Sometimes our best resources are the kids we teach.
